In this post, we are going to show you how to submit your logo design in 3 simple steps at our Facebook Tab - DanceWorks! Logo Design Contest.

Step one: Click on the yellow button “CLICK TO UPLOAD YOUR DESIGN”.

Do you guys ever wonder much about Santa Claus, even as a child? Well for me I have never really thought much about Santa when I was a kid bcos my parents never told me much about it, I guess it's bcos we are not that westernize to actually believe Santa Claus really exist?
I mean bcos most of our house don't have chimneys and Santa Claus have to come down from chimney right? I doubt anyone's house have chimneys in Singapore, it's of no use at all it doesn't even snow here, boring I know. (haha)

I'm not sure about the rest, at least me for that's the case. So sometimes it's quite funny to hear from some of our western friends that Santa Claus really exist and we are like, 'Nah they're fake', and it's kinda like rude or something?

Anyhow, skip the Santa Claus, back to Christmas! I guess a handful of our friends might have plans to party on Christmas Eve since it falls on Saturday this year. Remember! Party clean, party again! Live it out with dance, STAY COOL NO DRUGS!

We heard you have some troubles designing a logo, and here we are to your rescue :)

I wouldn't say designing a logo is easy, because you need great ideas and inspirations to visualise something; anything in your mind even before creating it out. The first step out is to mind mapped.

Lay a piece of paper out and start scribbling. Brainstorm on the word 'DanceWorks', write out anything that comes into your mind relating to the word DANCE, it can go as simple as;

For example,
- Hiphop
- Ballet

What else? What comes to your mind when you think of hiphop?
- Music?
- Stereo radio?
- Graffiti?

And the list goes on..

If you find yourself stuck with brainstorming, another alternative is to google! You can get all sort of ideas browsing through the wide variety of visuals on the internet, there's a saying, 'When in doubt, google', I don't know about you but it always work for me!

It doesn't have to be very fanciful, many times simplicity works just as good. :D

Okay, let's now look at some of the Past logo from DanceWorks!

It's as simple as it looks yet the message is brought across.

Simple used of initials makes it look refreshing, and how the little splashes are carefully included into the logo.

Again, the use of initials, wings that depicts flying. A slight tilt to add a little fun to it.

I hope all the information above could help you gather some thoughts on how you would like to start on yours! Come on, start doodling today, who knows it might spark off your inner creativity that you have never realize!

Tips for Logo Design

Greetings! Have you already started out on the Logo design competition for DanceWorks? If you haven't, you can start by reading this post! Here are tips on how to start on a logo!

Work with vectors
This probably sounds obvious to most designers out there, but it isn’t to everybody. Vector formats are the ones that will allow the most variations for your logo.
Don’t use more than 2 fonts
There is many nice fonts out there and we would all love to use as many as we can. Unfortunately using too many fonts will most of the time result in a loss of coherence. Using two different fonts can be good to create a contrast, catching the eye.
Keep it readable
If people can’t read your logo, it’s useless to have one. It’s easy to get caught in creating letters or distorting a font until it becomes unreadable. Always stay aware of that when working on your logo.
Don’t include photos in your logo
Well… this one goes along with the first tip. First, photos are not vectors. Photos also don’t scale, have no branding value and are hard to adapt for any use.
Adapt it for dark backgrounds
So you’ve got a wonderful looking dark logo, but now your client want to get it on his black car. It’s usually not too hard to adapt it, but you’ll look more professional if you already got that case figured out.

Well, I hope the above tips would assist you in creating your very own logo!

Hola!

Were you at Titanium last Saturday to check out the Grand Finals? Because if you were not, you sure missed out on tons!

We saw not only very explosive and improved performances by our finalists of Cat II and III, but also a superb showcase by other cool performers, such as the winners of the Cat I Finals, NV Groove Crew (remember those cuties?), young local rapper ShiGGaShay, talented singer Vanessa Faith, and the Original Singapore B-Boy dance group, Floor Techniques. There was not one boring moment in the house!

The club was filled with supporters by 1.30pm – as all of you know, it was a closed event and tickets were given away through a series of contests, and through the teams as well. We are all too glad to have them snapped up and see such a huge turnout!

Meet our hosts for the afternoon, Soo and Shan.

Nutz Crew of Cat II started the competition with a high-energy performance that blew everyone away!

Century Breakers were next, and continued to win everyone’s hearts with their swift moves – meets – humourous expressions!

Right after that was the Super Gee Crew, revamping their wardrobe for a fiercer, spicier look! The judges were in great favour of that!

Cosmoz Junior took the stage after, cute and rocking their cute tights as usual! They also wowed everyone by radiating positive energy – thanks to their sweet smiles. (:

Then it was time for the Cat III finalists to do their thing.

First up was Lolirock, with new outfits and an intriguing intro that captured everyone’s attention immediately.

The ever-energetic Siren girls came next, looking really sleek and coordinated. Where do they get all that energy?!

Love Burlesque? You would have loved Fantastic Forze Crew. So sultry and great acting, not to mention, blingy dresses!

Last but not least was Fad Faction, with a great storyline and sharp, sharp, sharp moves. That must have been a lot of practice!

After the teams’ performances, the audience was treated to some really special performances!

The NV Groove Crew presented their winning dance to the cheering crowd. Little Michael Jackson won the hearts of everyone again!

After that, local rapper ShiGGaShay treated everyone to a few songs. In one song, the young, pretty and talented Vanessa Faith joined him – they do make a good duo.

Things got more exciting with Floor Techniques Crew, who showed off their cool breakdancing moves. They also introduced a few basic moves to the crowd, and our very own judge Eden Ang even battled them and showed off what HE could do. It was all very very impressive!

Finally, it was time for the RESULTS!

Here were the winners for Cat II:

A huuuuge congratulations to all the teams, and great job on all their hard work, effort and immense creativity! I say that all the teams are champions in their own way, because of their will to do their best and give their all. (:

So that’s it for DanceWorks! this year – it was a really really high-adrenaline, nail-biting and intense competition amongst all the teams this year, they were all so good that they gave the judges such a difficult time!

Will next year’s DanceWorks! be just as good, or even better? It’s all up to you guys – to participate and show what you’ve got. So don’t hesitate to sign up next year, and you might just be the next champs!

Grand Finals - Calm before the storm

There is a mixture of tension, excitement and joy here at Titanium Club. Why? Because it's the morning of DanceWorks! 2011 Grand Finals, and all the teams are here to show and tell!

This is how our day started... Although everyone arrived bright and early, they were all prepped up and ready to rumble!

The rehearsals began soon enough!

Before we know it, the show will begin. I hear that there are other exciting performances to be seen as well! Also, who is going to go home with the top prizes? I'll keep you updated soon!

Hey guys!

So, it's just 2 more days till the Grand Finals of DanceWorks! 2011. For those who are attending the event, are you excited? I know I am!

DanceWorks! 2011 Grand Finals - The Contenders (FAD FACTION)

Last, but not least, I'll be telling you guys about the 4th team under Cat III to dance for the Grand Finals this Saturday. They are Fad Faction!

Fad Faction is a funky crew that, just like Lolirock, comprises only one girl and the rest, guys. The entire crew has 'a lot of swagger', as commended by the judges, and are great with their bboying as well!

Fad Faction's existence has everything to do with DanceWorks! The members got to know each other at a previous DanceWorks! competition, and decided to venture together to form a single crew. Thank goodness that they did so, because now they will be given one more chance to prove themselves and hopefully snag the top spot at the Grand Finals!

The crew also won Best Choreography at the preliminary rounds. Very well deserved - their moves, swagger and storyline were all fused together to create the perfect 'Dance Against Drugs' theme. (:

DanceWorks! 2011 Grand Finals - The Contenders (FANTASTIC FORZE CREW)

Girl power! That basically screams our hyperactive, sugar-and-spice Fantastic Forze Crew!

These girls set the stage on fire at *SCAPE during the Cat III Preliminary Rounds, strutting about in their fierce corsets and cute tutu skirts, and oozing so much appeal. They had a really sassy anti-drug theme, too. Maybe that's why they won the 1st place of the competition AND best costume award!

I had a great time watching them rehearse in their candy coloured getup, too! Nice tees, girls!

They were featured on the Home Team article which talks about DanceWorks! 2011 as a whole. Check it out here.

By the way, these rockin' chicks of Fantastic Forze Crew are merely a fraction of the entire team. The crew splits up to participate in various dance competitions all around Singapore! They are really that good, and have been around for about 3 years now.

DanceWorks! 2011 Grand Finals - The Contenders (SIREN)

If you were at *SCAPE a month earlier and were caught in some kind of tremor, some kind of crazy unknown force around the area, we don't blame you. We were feeling the same. Because the amount of ENERGY radiating from the girls from Siren is UNBELIEVABLE - I'm definitely sure they can stand together and become a generator producing electricity for an entire house. True story.

By the time these girls were done with their performance, they were panting so hard that they could hardly speak! No wonder they walked away with the Energizer High Energy Award AND 2nd place in the Cat III Preliminary Rounds. Very well done, Siren chickas! I'm very excited to see what they can do at the Grand Finals.

These girls also have a very strong following, especially on Twitter. And they told me that they are very very grateful for it - it is their fans that keep them going strong. I'm so sure that the Siren following is going to be huge at the Grand Finals!

DanceWorks! 2011 Grand Finals - The Contenders (LOLIROCK)

Q: What happens when you love sweets, but get so caught up with them that you trip over stones and fall?

A: You get Lolirock.

I know most of you can't catch what on earth I am talking about, but you will find out soon.

Meet Lolirock, a youthful crew comprising 4 funky boys and, the rose among the thorns, one sweet girl.

They managed to walk away from the Cat III Preliminary Rounds with the 3rd position, and will be seen at the Grand Finals this 16 April!

We do know that this team competed at DanceWorks! under a different name last year, and they had walked away with the Champion title. It was only this year that the team of boys returned with a female crew member, who definitely put lots of spice and drama into the dance routine!

So, how did the name, 'Lolirock' come about?

Our host Soowei asked the crew this question at the Preliminary Rounds. Their reply went something like this:

"She (female crew member) likes to eat lollipops. One day, we were walking along the road when she tripped over a stone - which helped to develop the word 'rock'. Hence, Lolirock!"

!!!!!!!!!

That is the most interesting and unique story behind a crew name that I have ever heard!

So do you think that Lolirock will make it to the top, the same way the boys managed to do so last year? We'll only find out at the Grand Finals!

DanceWorks 2011 Grand Finals - Exclusive Tickets!

D.A.N.C.E - Drugs Are Not Cool Ever!

This year for DanceWorks! 2011, we're gonna do something really different for the Grand Finals held on 16 April (Sat), 2pm - 4pm!

Traditionally, the Grand Finals is a closed-door event, only for ticketed guests and we've had overwhelming requests to provide tickets to supporters like you!

This year, the Grand Finals is STILL a closed-door event, BUT we're gonna give away a pair of tickets to supporters who can answer our question correctly!

Tickets have to be collected personally at our office and they cannot be sold!

Pls also note that each ticket allows entry for one person only, and more importantly, there is only STANDING ROOM for the supporters! Yup, just like a rock concert!

DanceWorks! 2011 Grand Finals - The Contenders (COSMOZ JR)

I've told you about our top three contenders from Cat II that will be battling it out at the Grand Finals... But there is one more team that has made it, too! Will they outlast the other three and prove to be the better crew? It's Cosmoz Jr from Pei Hwa Secondary School!

Here are the lovely ladies, clad in pretty pink tights - I like! (:

These girls were lauded by the judges for incorporating awesome colours in their costumes, and I couldn't agree less. On top of all that female demeanour, however, was a fierce leather jacket. I'm sure Tyra would really approve of the outfit, eh? It's a good mix of femininity and ruggedness, isn't it?

Outfit aside, they put up a great show that landed them the 4th place and an eligibility to prove themselves once again at the Grand Finals. It must be no big feat, because they were competing against twenty-five teams! Congratulations to Cosmoz Jr and I hope you can go all out to win the hearts of the judges one more time. (:

Here's their performance at VivoCity Amphitheatre at the Preliminary Rounds; this is definitely a video taken by one of their supporters, thanks to all the screeeeammming that's going around! Nevertheless, it's a great watch. Take a look!

The DanceWorks! 2011 Grand Finals briefing session

On Friday, many youths gathered at the multi-purpose hall of the Central Narcotics Bureau at Cantonment Road. They were the 8 teams eligible for the DanceWorks! 2011 Grand Finals, and were there to participate in a briefing session for the upcoming big event!

As you know, the Grand Finals will be taking place on 16th April, which is about 12 days away! The teams must be working very hard to bag the big title this time. However, how exactly will they be able to do so?

Well, the teams will be judged based on the following:

Clarity of Anti-Drug Theme	40

Showmanship (Co-ordination, Rhythm & Entertainment Value)	30

We all know by now that all the teams are really strong in their anti-drug theme, choreography AND showmanship - so it looks like this is going to be a really exciting and nail-biting experience for all of them!

So what exactly will the teams win?

Nothing makes a competition more worthwhile than true sportsmanship. It definitely makes the world a much better place to live in aye?

The Grand Finals will be held in an interesting location (we'll let you know more about that, soon!) and may I emphasize that this is a CLOSED-DOOR EVENT, so you won't be able to stroll along and catch the show as and when you like. This exclusive event is strictly by invites only!

If your friends are the team members participating in the Grand Finals, you can try to beg them to give you tickets so that you can head down and support them. However, there are also other ways that you can get your hands on them - but I will announce how you can, very soon, so do stick around as much as you can to find out how!

DanceWorks! 2011 Grand Finals - The Contenders (CENTURY BREAKERS)

It's finally April, and as of today, it's T-14 days till the Grand Finals of DanceWorks! 2011. Are you guys excited?

Anyway, I'll be putting the spotlight on another of our Grand Finals contestants, who are none other than the champions of the Cat II preliminary rounds. They are... Century Breakers!

The talented crew are from Anglo Chinese School (Barker), and have captured the hearts of the crowd AND judges because of their excellent moves infused into one of the funniest acting plots ever seen!

During their rehearsal, I even heard the other teams laughing uncontrollably because the boys were so animated, with quirky facial expressions and synchronised, hilarious choreography. Their bboying steps also wowed the crowd, who cheered unanimously and nonstop throughout the dance routine!

Here they are at VivoCity Amphitheatre, doing their victory encore performance after claiming the Champion title!

I really can't wait to see the boys again at the Grand Finals; how about you guys? Stay tuned to find out how you can get invited to the closed-door event. I'll let you know about it soon!

DanceWorks! 2011 Grand Finals - The Contenders (NUTZ CREW)

Hello everyone! Today I want to tell you guys more about another one of our teams that will be participating in the Grand Finals this April 16. They are.. The Nutz Crew!

Here's a video of The Nutz Crew at DanceWorks! 2011's Cat II Preliminary Rounds. Just to refresh you memory, they came in second for the preliminaries! (:

This group has been around for many years. Like I said before, they have been participating in DanceWorks! for 8 years. 8!! That's generation after generation of Nutz! I simply love the passion that the dancers have.

The Nutz Crew have also participated in other competitions, and have performed for their school events.

It's not easy to juggle studies at school, along with lots of dance practices. I see that it must take this bunch of Nutz a lot of fervour and passion for what they do, to be able to do it so well! Well done, Nutz Crew, and all the best for the Grand Finals!

I'll tell you more about the other teams soon, and also how you can win tickets to watch the teams battle it out at the Grand Finals. So, stay tuned!!

Okay, I know I promised to come back sooner with more details on our finalists, but I was pretty engaged by some of the videos I saw on YouTube - to the point of getting too engrossed in them! Anyway for today, I will be sharing the events of the Cat II preliminary rounds. If you missed it, you missed a whole lot of hyper-dramatic fans (not complaining!), insanely awesome dancers, and crazy, erratic downpours! Did I mention that some of the audience were caught in the rain outside VivoCity Amphitheatre? They did not care though, they simply went on to watch their supported teams perform! How is that for morale and support? If I were part of one of those teams with such fervent supporters, I'd have given more than just 150% in my performance.

Here are the highlights of what took place that day!

DanceWorks! 2011 Grand Finals - The Contenders

Hi all! It's been a very sleepy, hot week so far, but I've tried to combat all of that by staying indoors and catching up on DanceWorks! 2011 videos on YouTube! I just CAN'T get enough of watching those talented teams, they are toooooo good.

And not to forget, I've had many of the songs used by the teams playing in my head on repeat for a few weeks now. Some of the songs are 'Yeah 3x' by Chris Brown, 'Like a G6' by Far East Movement, and 'The Time (Dirty Bit)' by Black Eyed Peas. Ahhh, so infectious! Good choice, teams!

If you go to YouTube and search for 'DanceWorks! 2011', you can find some videos of the teams from all 3 categories that were uploaded by members of the public. It is really great to relieve the moments.

I shall be sharing some of the best moments of DanceWorks! 2011 Category rounds with you. Let's start with the latest, Cat III!

Just today, I managed to find this video uploaded by a fan (quite possibly, judging from the amount of screams in the background!!). These girls came in 3rd, and will be dancing at the Grand Finals on April 16!

They appeared on stage with the cutest Superhero costumes ever - and even incorporated a classic Malay ballad into their repertoire. Very unique, unexpected, and entertaining! Who knew these girls could be such great entertainers?

Up next - I will feature a fan video taken of a bunch of awesome nuts! Or should we say, Nutz? Hmmm... Stay tuned!

The weekend is drawing to a close, but it has been a rather exciting weekend, I must say! Out of 25 teams yesterday, a few teams walked home with really attractive prizes, and four teams were chosen to dance for the Grand Finals!

While it is usually my tradition to tell you how the entire competition went first, today, I shall cut to the chase and feed your anticipation with the results! (It’s always more fun to shake things up, eh?)

Best T-shirt Contest for fringe activity: Superwack - Bowen Secondary School

Displayed proudly outside VivoCity Amphitheatre for the world to see yesterday, Superwack's t-shirt design boasts many colours and funky illustrations!

Best Costume Award: Rockazoids - Naval Base Secondary School

The judges were very very impressed by Rockazoids' getup. "You really have the X-factor!" They crowed to the very pleased group. By the way, the coloured hair is made of fake removable extensions, so teachers of the school can relax. (:

Most Supported Team: M Crew - Maris Stella High School

With a huge group of students bearing the Maris Stella High School flag, as well as 3D cutouts to support the team, it is no wonder M Crew walked away as the most supported team of the entire competition!

Energizer High Energy Award: The Other Crew - Tanglin Secondary School

These boys, who have been participating in DanceWorks! for 5 years already, took the stage with a really high-adrenaline, sharp and well-coordinated performance. They truly deserve this award!

Best Choreography Award: Nutz Crew - Juying Secondary School

This bunch is really dedicated and talented, I must say. Year after year, they never fail to wow the audience with their choreography!

Artistic Merit Award: Shagurzz - Changkat Changi Secondary School

What sweethearts these girls are! They were absolutely expressive with their multi-coloured theme, and the judges were very brightened up by their extremely happy and positive aura as they performed.

3^rd Place: Super Gee Crew - Choa Chu Kang Secondary School

It's a bird, nope, it's a plane.. Not at all, here come the Super Gee Crew! The judges were very taken in by these cute girls who put up a very energetic performance. They entertained the crowd with their cool storyline too!

2^nd Place: Nutz Crew - Juying Secondary School

"We can tell that your dance routine was very well rehearsed!" The judges said. This goes to show that practice makes perfect and will get you nearer to the top! The judge, Eden Ang, also said, "Thank you boys, for making my day with your entertaining performance." Well, if you made a judge's day, you definitely deserve to be in the top three!

1^st Place: Century Breakers - Anglo Chinese School

What happens when you combine excellent B-boying with a comedy act? Well, for Century Breakers, they got the first prize! They got the judges laughing the whole time with their funny story-cum-dance. The boys also won extra points for being so cohesive as a team. Remember, guys, team-building always helps you get to success. (:

Lastly, joining the three teams at the finals is Cosmoz Jr!

Also blowing our minds were the other teams who gave us epic performances and wowing us with their costumes and dance steps! Everyone put in a very good effort, so, way to go to all of you - at the end of the day, everyone is a champion for persevering and making an impact in so many lives in one day. (:

The Grand Finals are on April 16, but please don't go away, because I'll be giving you updates on what you can expect on the Finals itself! Oh, you do know that it's a closed-door event, right? There are some ways you can get into the event, though. I will fill you in on how you can do so, soon!

Good morning from VivoCity!

Top o' the morning, my dear readers! Here at VivoCity Amphitheatre, I'm watching as our Cat II teams take the stage to familiarise themselves and practice on their dance routines.

From what I know, there are many new teams this year, but also a few others who have been participating in DanceWorks! for many years now.

Introducing our veterans:

The boys from Nutz Crew and The Other Crew have been here for 8 years and 5 years respectively! They have literally grown up with DanceWorks!

Nutz Crew has been passing on the DanceWorks! fever from generation to generation, and are always bringing in new members to the team. They are still confident that they might just take home an award today. (:

The Other Crew have also been around for quite a while, and you can tell from the dazzled looks of the girls from other teams that their moves have the ability to capture hearts!

However, there are also other 1st time contenders amongst the crowd, such as BDS Indian Dance who are from Bedok South Secondary School.

Asking about their concept, they said, "We are using a unique and ethnic dance concept, and hopefully, this will put us at an advantage!"

Other 1st-timers also include two teams who are from the same school! The teams, called Infinity and Impulse, are from Ngee Ann Secondary School, and have trained under the same dance CCA together.

When asked if they are competitive against each other, they told me, "Actually, we're both supporting each other." That's really sweet and goes to show how cohesive the group of friends is. (:

Tearing my eyes away from the stage, I managed to take a look at the t-shirt designs which each team had created as part of the competition.

How well they do in their t-shirt designs will also determine their placing in the overall competition!

The competition starts in an hour, so if you're not at VivoCity yet, get yourself down here as soon as you can! It's gonna get hot in here, and we know it's not just from the weather!

This week has flown by so fast, hasn't it? Before we can realise it, the weekend is finally here and guess what? It is time for DanceWorks! 2011 Cat II Preliminary Rounds tomorrow!

Category II teams are basically teams of youth that are aged between 13 to 17 years old. Here is the list of teams:

I've spoken to some of the dancers of various teams that will be competing tomorrow on Twitter, and they are all more than prepared for the big event tomorrow. Again, it is the Preliminary Round so some teams will be chosen to dance for the Grand Finals, taking place in about a month's time. Who will be in, and who will be out?

Nevertheless, I am really sure every team is really excited to be on stage and dance for what they believe in - Dance Against Drugs! That's our theme for this year's competition.

So I hope to see all of you at VivoCity Amphitheatre tomorrow at 12.30pm (that's when the excitement begins!). If you're not gonna be dancing, do go down to support your favourite teams, and also be in awe of all the talented young people!

The results of the Cat III Preliminary rounds!

Good afternoon all! I hope the weekend has been treating you kindly so far.

As promised, I will be revealing the results of yesterday's Cat III Preliminary rounds here. This is for all of you who couldn't make it to Playspace @ *SCAPE Mall yesterday.

Before I go on, if you wish to catch the Cat II Preliminary rounds (for youth between 13-17 years of age), you can do so at VivoCity Amphitheatre next Saturday, 19th March! Or if you want to skip all that to the Grand Finals, do note that this event is a closed-door one, however, you will be able to win tickets to attend it exclusively! Stay tuned with us by following our Facebook and Twitter pages to find out how you can win, as we will announce how you can win tickets to the Grand Finals real soon. =)

Anyway, yesterday was an exhilarating day for all of us at *SCAPE Mall! The teams were so filled with energy, and executed really sharp and clean moves that wowed the audience and judges alike. Here are some shots of the teams in action.

From left to right, starting from the top: Raffles Street Dance, D'Movement, Kashiviatz, The Heroine Crew, Fantastic Forze Crew, Siren, Fad Faction, Lolirock, and Style Groovaz Crew.

The teams were so impressive that the judges had such a hard time trying to decide who to award the prizes to. In fact, I eavesdropped on some of the judges' comments, and this is what they had to say about the teams.

Raffles Street Crew - "Great crowd support - You guys have really neat moves and good pair work too!"

D'Movement - "Consistent and intricate choreography with a good storyline!"

Kashiviatz - "Good swagger in your dance, and convincing acting from the dancers!"

Heroine Crew - "Great use of props and a very clear anti-drug message!"

Fantastic Forze Crew - "Your expressions and characters were consistent throughout the dance, and I sense GIRL POWER!"

Siren - "You guys are so energetic and have such clean steps and moves!"

Fad Faction - "Fantastic execution and you guys have swagger!"

Lolirock - "Good freezes, expressions, and characters. You guys showed a good and clear message - you were very entertaining!"

Style Groovaz Crew - "I couldn't stop laughing throughout the performance, you guys are so funny!"

The crowd support was great throughout, too. There were banners all around the place!

As difficult as it was, the judges eventually chose their winning teams. Here are the results!

Good Saturday afternoon folks, what are your plans for today? Why not come on down to *SCAPE mall? DanceWorks! 2011 will be commencing this afternoon with the Category III Preliminary rounds!

Just this morning, the teams arrived bright and early for rehearsal. This is what went down:

And how do the teams feel right before the competition starts?

Even the team, Lolirock (last year's winners) feel that they are up for a very challenging competition this year. However, they are back with a female crew member (the black haired girl in pink in the background), and perhaps that will help them keep their position at the top!

The girls of Heroine Crew have chosen, however, to take it easy. "We'll just do it, we'll chill!" They say.

Here is Siren, who has decided to pray before their time to dance. By the way, this team is very very well-loved by their supporters, and they are oh-so-grateful!

The competition is about to start very soon, so who will make their way into the Grand Finals? We'll find out very soon!

DanceWorks! 2011 Cat I Finals - Videos

Hey guys! I hope you have had a wonderful weekend so far.

In the meantime, in case you haven't had a closer look at the Cat I Finals at Toa Payoh Hub last weekend, here are some videos of the chain of events that took place:

The second runner-up, Ordinary People's Passion from Yishun Primary School! Check out their kung fu moooves.

The first runner-up are Super Duper Junior from Anglo-Chinese School (Primary). If you love K-Pop, I'm pretty sure you'll be blown away by them!

Finally, the champions, NV Groove Crew from North View Primary School! Their burlesque and Michael Jackson moves won the judges over thoroughly.

It really shows that you are not too young to display some really sharp moves, eh?

So, the Cat III Preliminary rounds will be taking place at *SCAPE Mall next Saturday. We do hope that all the contestants are ready to blow our minds as well. Till then, do have a great week!

The Cat I Finals - Energy, Twists, and Champions!

It was a very exciting evening for 20 teams of hopefuls below 12 this afternoon. The talented dancers gathered in Toa Payoh Hub to battle against each other in hopes of getting the top prize.

The crowd was constantly entertained by our emcee, Soo, and Gayle Nerva, who was filming the event for Okto channel (YES! If you did not hear, DanceWorks! 2011 will be aired on Okto Channel on 8th May).

At the end of the day, it was up to the judges, Kay Lee, Eden Ang, and Adelene Chua (all veterans of dance) to decide who would win. It was a very, very tough decision!

The Guest-of-Honour, Mr Wong Siew Hoong, Member, National Council Against Drug Abuse (NCADA) gave away the prizes to all our deserving teams.

3rd prize - Ordinary People's Passion (Yishun Primary School)

2nd prize - Super Duper Junior (Anglo-Chinese School (Primary))

1st prize - The A.D. Gurls (East View Primary School)

The judges also gave awards to various teams for their specially-concerted efforts:

Best Costume Award - WRPS Rhythmic Squad (Woodlands Ring Primary School)

Most Supported Team Award - Happy Feet Crew (Lianhua Primary School)

Energizer Hi-Energy Award - The A.D. Gurls (East View Primary School)

Artistic Merit Award - WRPS Rhythmic Squad (Woodlands Ring Primary School)

Best Choreography Award - Ordinary People's Passion (Yishun Primary School)

3rd Place: Ordinary People's Passion (Yishun Primary School)

The judges really loved the team's use of a Kung-Fu concept, and were also very captivated by the 'Kung-Fu Panda', whose presence spiced up the entire dance! Mr Eden Ang also said this, "I noticed that your group has no weak links... All of you are very strong in your moves!" Well done, Ordinary People's Passion!

2nd Place: Super Duper Junior (Anglo-Chinese School (Primary))

Now, who can resist a bunch of boys dancing to everyone's favourite K-pop songs? Their awesome storyline got the judges laughing nonstop, and these boys also received the judges' praise for being consistent and with good transition. Do keep it up, Super Duper Junior, you won't be "sorry sorry sorry sorry". :p

1st Place: NV Groove Crew (North View Primary School)

This versatile crew had nothing but GOOD WORDS from all the judges, it is no wonder they went home with the title of 1ST PLACE! The dance had a mix of beautiful costumes and props - not to mention a very clear and concise storyline telling everyone that drugs are not good for you. The 'Burlesque vs Babies' concept eventually took a twist, and got everyone cheering loudly when a mini Michael Jackson emerged, executing moonwalk steps and quick, swift steps that would have done our late legend very proud! They truly deserve this title. Well done, NV Groove Crew!

It is without a doubt that ALL the teams have done extremely well - keep it up, guys!

But the excitement does not end here. Please do stay tuned in two weeks for the Cat III Preliminary competition on 12th March at PlaySpace at *SCAPE Mall!

The heat is on at Toa Payoh Hub!

What can you expect when tens to hundreds of primary school children come together in support of their favourite dance teams?

Lots and lots of fervour in the air, that's what you get!

It's almost time for the Cat I Finals to begin at Toa Payoh Hub, and the place is already teeming with supporters of the finalists. Check out the cheer teams and their props!

In the meantime, the teams have been through their rehearsals this morning. They twirled, they spun, they did splits... Such great talent for such young people! Watching them, we can't help but wonder who will win this year....

Will the title go to last year's champs, Woodgroovers?

Fact of the day: Woodgroovers have a contender among their schoolmates: the Girl Groovers! These two teams are from Woodgrove Primary School, and will be competing with each other for the title!

However, does competition affect friendship amongst the groups?

"No, we're still friends!" This pair of BFFs tell us. Awww!

The Woodgroovers also understand that this year's competition is going to be tight. Says team leader Muhd Arfan, "I can tell that the other groups are really strong, too."

Let's sit tight and wait, then!

Of course, we cannot forget the Top 3 Winners of the Anti-Drug Action Figurine Design Competition:

The Figurine designs contribute to 10% of the entire dance competition. But it is the 90% that determines the true winner! So, who will be this year's contender?

Cat I Finals... It's Time!

Good morning, Singapore! I'm reporting live from Toa Payoh HDB Hub this lovely Saturday morning, and it's buzzing here with hopeful youngsters clad in multi-colours! Yes, it's the morning of DanceWorks! 2011's Cat I Finals, and the finalists have reported their strength. They are currently given 5 minutes per team to rehearse their dance sequence and get familiar with the stage.

So, what has been happening since 8am? Here are some snippets of the morning...

The time is finally just around the corner - in less than 24 hours at Toa Payoh HDB Hub, DanceWorks! 2011 kicks off its very first competition, the Category I Finals!

Here's a sneak preview of what you can expect tomorrow:

We're pretty sure that all the finalists are really excited about it - and their fans and supporters, too!

If you want to show your undying love and support for your favourite team or school's team, you can! In fact, your act of support can even help the team win. All you need is an iPhone, and you're good to go!

Here's how you can:

1) If you haven't already, download iContest SG from the Apple Store. It's free!

2) Once the app has been downloaded, tap on it and you will find the existing contests on the main page. DanceWorks! 2011 is presently at the very top.

3) Tap on the contest and it will expand to give you more details about it - tap on 'Explore' so that you can start voting.

4) You will now be shown the list of teams for the Cat I finals. Pick your favourite!

5) You will be given 10 votes (on the bottom right side of the screen - currently you will not be entitled to any votes till the start of the competition tomorrow!). You are allowed to use all 10 votes on your favourite team.

You can also use your votes to vote for different teams!

The voting period begins at the start of the competition, and will close at the end of the final team's performance. So be sure to have your iPhones whipped out tomorrow!

Remember, every vote counts, and will help your favourite team WIN the Most Supported Team award!

The Most Supported Team Award will be judged like this:

10% - iPhone votes

90% - Supporter's presence at the competition:

- Props (banners bearing names of teams and schools, boards) - 15%

Announcin' the winners of DanceWorks! 2011Category I Finals Anti-Drug Action Figurine Design Competition!

The registration for DanceWorks! 2011 has closed and for each category, we invited teams to submit entries for the fringe activity.

Category I (youths 13 years and below) teams were asked to design an Anti-Drug Action Figurine, which comprises 10% of the entire dance competition and we received numerous wonderful entries.

And it's the time for us to announce the results of the DanceWorks! 2011 Category I Finals Anti-Drug Action Figurine Design Competition!

CONGRATULATIONS to the winners for their outstanding designs!

We're gonna display the winning entries with 7 other awesome designs at DanceWorks! 2011 Category I Finals this Sat 26 Feb 2011 from 12.30pm - 4.00pm @ Toa Payoh HDB Hub Mall.

Hello people!

As promised, DanceWorks! 2011 is finally here! After a long and anticipated wait, we're very proud to announce that registration is OPEN from now until 17 Jan 2011!

The theme for the annual anti-drug dance competition is

"Dance Against Drugs!"

and the tagline is

"D.A.N.C.E - Drugs Are Not Cool Ever!"

Hey guys, what can I say? The DanceWorks! 2010 Grand Finals was AWESOME!!!!

All the 8 teams were magnificent on stage, givin' their all and rawwwkking Shanghai Dolly!

A BIG THANK YOU to ALL the teams - Lost and Found, Urban Terrain Groovers, Unique Fusion, Funky Nutz, Super Grapes, Raffles Street Dance, Soul Asylum and Fhunkie Stylerz for putting up such a MAGNIFICENT show during our Grand Finals! You guys RAWWK! :)

A big thank you to all of you and your supporters, for making DanceWorks! 2010 a huge success!!

The audience was treated to a delightful and dazzling display of awesome dance performances, combined with gorgeous costumes, hip music and funky props!

WOW! What a weekend it was for us at

DanceWorks! 2010 Cat II Prelims A & B!

The dancers simply ROCKED the stage at the Open Plaza outside Plaza Singapura and the event attracted lotsa people despite the heavy rain!

And what better way to kick off the scoop on DanceWorks! 2010 Cat II Prelims,

other than this cool Live, Love, Dance liner on one of our dancers' tee shirt?

Yuppers, our dancers definitely did LIVE IT LOUD WITH DANCE! through their high level of energy and passion throughout the whole competition as they danced their way to a drug-free lifestyle! The whole atmosphere was filled with excitement and enthusiasm!

Zaption, from CHIJ Secondary School (Toa Payoh), clinched the first prize for the DanceWorks! Team Photo Collage Design Competition and won $300 cash prize!

On Sat (Cat II Prelims A), registration was supposed to start at 8.30am but there were many teams who were already rehearsing their dance moves around the event venue and preparing their costumes and make-up...

Well, this year, the tagline for DanceWorks! 2010 is Live It Loud With Dance!
which wants all young people to live a vibrant and drug-free lifestyle through dance!

The anti-drug theme for all categories is

"Dance is Clean! Say No to Drugs and Doping!"

and all the participants have to incorporate this theme in their dance items and take their stand against drug abuse!

So how do they do that? Sounds tough huh?

Not at all! Our participants wowed us with their creativity in incorporating the
anti-drug theme in their dance moves..

May of them made use of anti-drug banners and placards... props and even the song lyrics..

Whoppeee! Results of DanceWorks! Category I Finals!!!

WHEEEE!!

It was such an action-packed and fun day at Toa Payoh HDB Hub last Sat (6 March)! DanceWorks! 2010 kicked off its CAT I Finals at 1pm, with the participants, supporters and crowd filling up the venue space!!

If you missed the show, let me bring you through the adrenaline-pumping event!

First of all, let's take a sneak peek at the participants getting ready during the rehearsal - I must say, they were all so excited and serious about their costumes and make-up!

But of course, there's always time for some fun group shots from many of our participants who can't hide their excitement! :)

This year, DanceWorks! Category I participants are invited to create an Anti-Drug Time Capsule to the theme "We Said 'No Way!' To Drugs". What's that??

The contents of the time capsule must include items, notes and messages to convey the anti-drug message of a future era.

This fringe activity made up 10% of the overall score for the competition and we have received many creative and outstanding entries. Let's take a sneak peak at these entries...

First Prize goes to... Ordinary People's Passion from Yishun Primary School!
The proud champions of the Anti-Drug Time Capsule Competition walked away with $300!

2nd prize goes to D'Steppers of East View Primary School, who walked away with a $200 prize!

The Groove Crew from North View Primary School walked away with the 3rd prize for the Anti-Drug Time Capsule Competition, and was awarded $100 cash prize!

Woodgrovers from Woodgrove Primary School, The Cool Kids from Griffiths Primary School and The Antidotes from Southview Primary School emerged as the outstanding entries that were on display at our exhibition during the competition!

Look at those awesome time capsules created by our innovative young participants who have taken their firm stand against drug abuse! Way to go!

And finally the competition kicked off at 1pm, with our special Guest-of-Honour Mdm Suwarin Chaturapit, National Council Against Drug Abuse (NCADA) member gracing the event!

A "Most Supported Team Award" was also given out to the team with the most number of supporters to create banners, come up with cheers or don clothes of the same colour!

Guess which team won the "Most Supported Team Award"?
Yup, the Groove Crew from North View Primary School walked away with $300 award for the strong support and loud cheers they received which rocked the event venue! :)

Their supporters brought along their poms poms, donned "Drug-Free" tee shirts and showed their unity and energy with each loud cheer!

The Merlyos from White Sands Primary School was awarded the "Artistic Merit Award" with their infusion of the YOG logo and theme, showcasing their artistic flair in the choreography of their dance steps!

D'Steppers from East View Primary School wowed the crowd with their brimming energy and zest, and clinched the "Energizer Hi-Energy Award"!

Best Costume Award goes to the Ordinary People's Passion from Yishun Primary School, with their awesome and cute costumes!

Congrats to GALSync from Fairfield Methodist School who emerged 3rd in DanceWorks! 2010 Cat I Finals!!! They walked away with $400 cash prize!

Ordinary People's Passion from Yishun Primary School clinched the 2nd Prize, bringing back $600 cash prize!
This is in addition to their "Best Costume Award" and 1st Prize in "Anti-Drug Time Capsule" Competition! KUDOS to them!!!

And... THE FIRST PRIZE of DanceWorks! 2010 Cat I Finals... goes to... *drum rolls*

We are kicking off our Category I Finals this Saturday (6 March 2010) at Toa Payoh HDB Hub from 1.00pm – 3.00pm! Join us as we watch our young participants from various primary schools living it loud with their magnificent dance moves!

In addition, come on down to the competition venue to view our winning and shortlisted entries of the “Anti-Drug Time Capsule Competition”, where participants are given the challenge to create a time capsule to the theme “We Said ‘No Way!’ to Drugs”, to convey the anti-drug message to children of a future era!

DANCEWORKS! 2009 GRAND FINALS

Hellooooooooo everyone !!! :D

I have reason to believe that everyone who attended Danceworks!09 at Bellini Grande had a rockin' good time cos the competition was a real blast wasn't it !! ^^ all 8 teams set the stage on fire with their red-hot sizzling moves and boy oh boy, it was a really tough job for the judges to come to a decision as to who deserves the champion award.

That aside, guest performers such as the Champion team for Category I - OPP from Yishun Primary School performed for the crowd as well with their award-winning dance moves. Juxtapose also graced the stage with 3 hit songs, one of which was written by the lead singer himself!

p.s Only tickets holders are allowed into the competition venue.

Tickets are only distributed to the participants. Thus, to get a ticket to support your favourite team, QUICK, call anyone of the participants that you know for a ticket now!

Guess what, the champion team from Category One is invited to perform during the Grand Finals too. (Wow, how cute can these little dancers get!)

In another few hours time, the participants will be on a tough battle field, fighting to be the Champion team! So, how can you miss all these wonderful performance??

The 2-hr workshop will be conducted free of charge by Mr Lim Chin Huat, a professional dance choreographer. Mr Lim has a wealth of experience in dance and choreography. He is also a Young Artist Award recipient under the National Arts Council.

Don't forget that there will be a pre-competition dance workshop in early Feb 09 to help participants enhance your dance vocabulary. Vacancies are limited, so the workshop will only be opened to selected category (s), with a maximum of 2 participants per registered team on a first-come-first-served basis. Don't miss this rare chance!
